Psalm 48

(A Korah family psalm for singing.)

Majestic and mighty,
Yahweh deserves every accolade,
Every song of praise.
So, too, God’s city Jerusalem,
His chosen mountain.

It’s shape,
It’s height,
It’s just so beautiful.
Mount Zion is the source of joy
For all earth,
Making Zaphon meager
In comparison,
For here is where the Great King
Calls home.
Every building,
Ever room,
Filled with God.
God present.
God protecting.

An alliance of kings
Mustered their armies,
But when they saw her,
They wet their shorts
And ran home to their mommies.
Their panic attacks
Left them quivering,
Incapacitated.
Their glorious armada
Splintered and sank.

Our ears heard it,
Our eyes saw it
As it happened
Right here
In the city of Yahweh the Undefeatable,
In the city of our God.
God guarantees her security
Forever.

When we gather
In your temple, God,
We train our thoughts on one thing:
Your relentless, never-stopping love.
Your reputation
And praise
Span the globe, God.
Everyone knows how good you are
Because you do it.
Mount Zion sings,
Judah towns laugh
Because you take wrong things
And make them right.

Take a walk around Zion,
Look her up and down,
Count her towers,
Note her defenses,
See her citadels.
Carve them into your memory
So you can tell your kids
And grandkids.

This God we worship
Is our God forever
And ever.
He’ll stick with us,
Leading us all the way
To the very end.
