Psalm 25

(A David psalm.)

Accept my soul, Yahweh,
All of it.
I’m handing it over to you.

Be worthy of my trust, God,
Because I’m looking to you to save me
From shame,
From disgrace.

Congruence matters here.
Hoping in you shields from shame.
Being underhanded invites it.

Direct me down your road.
Coach me in your way of living.

Engage my heart and mind,
Training me in truth.

For you are my saving God.
For you are the one I’m waiting
To rescue me.

Good Yahweh, remember.
Keep your love at the front of your mind.
Keep your age-old mercy fresh and new.

Hurl my sins from your memory
Eradicate any trace of my stupid youth.

Instead, see me
Through the lens of your love.
Let your goodness shadow my badness.

Just and fair is Yahweh,
Enrolling us sinners in your soul school.

Keep your hand
On the humble,
Guiding,
Teaching,
Training.

Love is Yahweh’s True North,
Determining his direction,
Defining his relationship
With those who keep his covenant.

Mend the rips
Torn into relationships by my many sins.
That’s what I think of
When I hear the name Yahweh.

Name for me
People who consider God in all they do.
He’ll point out for them
The best way to live.

Old age will descend on them gently,
Their lives full and complete,
With grandchildren surrounding them,
Taking their places
As the real owners of the land.

People who live in a Godward direction
Get in on Yahweh’s thoughts,
For he shares his covenant life with them.

Quiet of heart and focused of eye
On Yahweh
And I am

Released from the snares
I step in.

Stop and turn toward me.
Look with loving eyes on me.
For my heart is crushed
And I am so, so alone right now.

Trouble has seeped from my circumstances
Into me heart.
Drain down my anxieties.

Uncover the source of my struggles
And scrub out the sins
That got me in this mess.

Violence threatens me
From haters on every side.

Watch over me.
I need rescue!

X out my shame.
Give me a fresh start.
I am counting on you.

You, Yahweh, are my hope.
I want to be the same person with you
As I am with others
And by myself.

Zoom down!
Be my rescuing superhero.
Get me out of this mess
And quickly!
